It suddenly feels like autumn in Manhattan, and definitely not the pleasant kind - I don’t do wet and cold. Time for some warm liquids to soothe the sore throat…

HOT CHAI with HONEY.
Add 1/4 cup whole milk or light cream to Black Tea of your choice - simmer in a sauce pan with All-Spice, Cinnamon, Ground Nutmeg, and Cardamom. Strain before serving. Add 1-2 tbs honey for sweetness.

SOUR CHICKEN SOUP with GINGER, RADISH, and ATSUAGE TOFU.
Ingredients:
1 whole chicken breast
chicken stock
6 red radishes, with leaves (cut cross on bottoms)
½ daikon, sliced
1 atsuage, sliced
½ cup barley
½ cup 13-bean mix
2 stalks chopped celery
4 fresh shiitake mushrooms, sliced
1 tomato, diced
1 lemon (squeeze for juice)
½ cup chopped scallions
2 tbs garam masala
1 tbs ground cardamom
½ cup white wine vinegar
2 bay leaves
1 tbs butter
2 tbs ginger
1 tsp garlic
Salt & fresh pepper to taste
Cook chicken in pot until skin turns golden brown. Cover entire chicken with stock, add bay leaves, then bring to a boil. Add remaining ingredients and let simmer. Finish with juice of lemon, salt, and pepper. Top with scallions before serving.

Ginger, honey, and daikon (radishes) are all said to have anti-inflammatory/analgesic properties…yummy for the throat, and yummy for the soul.
