stale bread means pudding time!
I just pulled out 7 gray strands of hair from the top of my head. I brought one particularly fat one to my husband, who promptly took it in his hand and placed it on his own head - no questions asked. He goes back to his column…..and I go back to my baking.

STALE BREAD MAKES GOOD BREAD PUDDING!

½ cup half and half

(What is bread pudding anyway?)

I really dislike Halloween…but Happy Halloween, anyway.

We all agree that the Red Sox’s victory can be attributed, in part, to our very own Jackie O’Lantern. Jackie sat through all four World Series games and 500 bottles of beer; always smiling, always positive.
I would like to thank her by eating her insides.

ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS.
Ingredients:
Pumpkin seeds, washed
Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Clean the pumpkin seeds well; let dry over night. Toss seeds with oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Spread out on baking sheet and bake for 15-20 min on 200F (cooking on higher temperatures supposedly destroys all those natural oils in the seeds). My only advice: as tasty as they are…don’t eat more than a handful of seeds in one sitting.

A few weeks ago, I was happy to discover that my hub could actually eat and enjoy Tarako (that’s ‘Tara’s child’ (aka salted cod roe) for ya). To satisfy my Tarako craving, my sis sent me some from home, hooray! - except it seems to have broken the seal. And let me tell you, it’s not an easy task trying to find Tara’s children in the city…

TARAKO & KALE HOMEFRIES.
Ingredients: (2 servings)
1 red potato, diced
1 shallot, finely chopped
1 large clove garlic, chopped
1 cup kale, chopped
2 tbs Tarako
2 tbs olive oil
½ tbs butter
½ cup dry white wine
¼ cup half and half
Fresh pepper to taste
Sautee shallots and garlic with olive oil. Add the kale and white wine; steam until leaves are wilted. Put in the potatoes (preferably pre-boiled or steamed), butter, and cream. Once the potatoes have cooked through completely, turn heat off, and stir in Tarako. Add fresh pepper to taste.
