azuki-gayu.

January 15th, 2008

Hub: “Wait, what am I eating?” (look of surprise as he realizes he’s been putting things into his mouth) “No…I know…they’re macaroons.” (continues to shell his ‘macaroons’)
Kaka: “Macaroons?!”
H: “Whatever. Peanuts.”
K: “They’re actually pistachios.”
H: “Whatever. All nuts are peanuts.”

(This post has nothing to do with nuts or macaroons, but I just wanted to clarify that all nuts are not peanuts.)

I missed my Nanakusa-gayu this year, but I’m making it up with some Azuki-gayu…yay!

azuki-gayu

AZUKI-GAYU, azuki bean rice porridge. Ingredients: (4 servings)

½ cup azuki beans
3 cups water

2 cups cooked brown rice, millet, black rice
2-3 cups water
½ tsp salt

Soak beans for at least 30min. Transfer drained beans to pot, add water, and bring to a boil. Add 1 additional cup of water, and turn down to low heat. Cover pot and let simmer for about an hour until beans are cooked through. Drain beans and add to another pot with cooked rice, water, and salt. Simmer for about 10 min before serving.
