on walking through snow & homemade pesto.

January 21st, 2009

Tadaaa.  It’s me again.  Happy New Year, Happy New President, etc.

I have a random issue that’s been bugging the hell out of me - why do people not hold umbrellas through snow/flurries?  I thought it was perfectly sensible to use an umbrella in a snow storm…until my husband made fun of me.  And then I noticed that no one else was using one.  So my question of the day is this: what is the logic behind this nonsense phenomenon?

(FYI I tried going umbrella-free the other day, and I ended up with icicles on my lashes, and two inches of snow on top of my head.)

HOMEMADE PESTO with FLAXSEED.

Ingredients: (4 Servings)

1 cup Fresh Basil Leaves
2/3 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/2 cup Parmesan, Grated
1/3 cup Flaxseeds, Ground
1 clove Garlic
Salt & Fresh ground pepper to taste

Blanch basil leaves (5-10 seconds), and transfer to an ice bath.  Drain and squeeze out excess water.  Place basil, parmesan, garlic, and flaxseed in a blender.  Blend until fine; adjust seasoning with S/P.
